Lively Technical College and the Florida Department of Transportation have partnered to form the Lively Paratransit Instructional Program (LPIP). The program purpose is to provide state of the art industry level training to Florida paratransit technicians. LPIP will provide paratransit technicians with quality training and information to facilitate improved performance and efficiency in the public transit area. The training will include classroom and lab settings and will be a resource for training materials and various tools and equipment used daily throughout the state of Florida.

Paratransit Technician I

Introduction to Paratransit Preventive Maintenance

The Introduction to Paratransit Preventive Maintenance course provides technicians with information regarding vehicle component identification, inspection and maintenance. Shop safety, tools, shop equipment, precision measurement instruments instruction, use of service manuals, shop repair orders and related forms are included. The course includes wheelchair lift inspection, maintenance and lubrication in relation to the PMI process.

Paratransit Electrical/Electronic Systems Technician

The Paratransit Electrical/Electronic System Technician course provides technicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose, service and repair basic electrical/electronic systems. Topics include shop safety, electrical theory and circuit diagnosis, cranking batteries, starting and charging systems, instrumentation, lighting and various vehicle accessories.

Paratransit Wheelchair Lift Technician

The Paratransit Wheelchair Lift Technician course teaches basic troubleshooting techniques, lift safety features and electrical / hydraulic operation, diagnostics and repairs.

Paratransit Gasoline Engine Technician

The Paratransit Gasoline Engine Technician course introduces technicians to the knowledge and skills needed as engine performance/repair technicians. Topics include shop safety, electrical/electronic diagnosis, diagnosis and service of fuel, ignition, emission and electronic engine controls and principles of engine operation.

Paratransit Steering/Suspension Technician

The Paratransit Steering/Suspension Technician course provides technicians with skills needed to inspect, service and maintain steering and suspension components. Included are chassis components and type identification, alignment theory and procedures and system operation, diagnosis and repair.

Paratransit Hydraulic Brake Technician

The Paratransit Hydraulic Brake Technician course provides technicians with skills needed to inspect, service and maintain hydraulic brake systems. Topics include shop safety, basic electrical/electronic theory and hydraulic brake system operation, diagnosis and repair.

Paratransit Technician II

Paratransit Engine Electrical and Electronics Technician

The Paratransit Engine Electrical and Electronics Technician course includes study on modern engine electronic controls, component identification, the operation of sensors, actuators and emission systems

Paratransit Intermediate Electrical Systems Technician

The Paratransit Intermediate Electrical Systems Technician course prepares technicians on a more advanced skill set for use in specific transit electrical systems. Transit vehicle starting, charging and battery systems are major components of the course.

Paratransit Drivetrain Technician

The Paratransit Drivetrain Technician course provides technicians with the skills to inspect, service and maintain transmissions, transaxles, and drivelines. Topics include automatic transmission/transaxle operation, service and diagnosis, drive shaft operation, service and diagnosis and differential operation, service and diagnosis.

Paratransit Air Brake Technician

The Paratransit Air Brake Technician course provides technicians with skills needed to inspect, service and maintain air braking systems. Topics include shop safety, air supply valves, lines and components, mechanical brake system operation, diagnosis and repair.

Paratransit Technician III

Paratransit Alternative Fuels Technician/Electric Vehicle Technician

The Paratransit Alternative Fuels Technician course includes operation, service, maintenance and safety on transit vehicles using alternative fuels. Instruction includes Compressed Natural Gas and propane fueled vehicles.

Paratransit Advanced Electrical Systems Technician

Paratransit Advanced Electrical Systems Technicians course emphasizes skills needed to perform advanced level service, diagnostics and repair on transit electrical components. Included are complex electrical schematics and multiplex wiring systems.

Paratransit Heating Air Conditioning Ventilation Systems Technician

The Paratransit Heating Air Conditioning Ventilation Systems Technician course provides technicians with skills needed to service HVAC systems. Topics include basic shop safety, HVAC systems electrical/electronic theory and HVAC controls along with operation, diagnosis and servicing of vehicle HVAC systems.

Paratransit Engine Diagnosis, Rebuild and Repair Technician

The Paratransit Engine Diagnosis, Rebuild and Repair Technician course includes in-depth engine instruction. Students will learn component identification, tear down and rebuild procedures.

Component Training

Preventative Maintenance Inspection (Paratransit)

This three-day session is designed for new technicians and/or outsourced vendors and addresses FDOT expectations relative to preventative maintenance as well as the form and documents required to be compliant. The PM process will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure understanding of the process. This session will include Fogmaker annual inspection certification and a Braun wheelchair lift training.

Preventative Maintenance Inspection (5310 MAINTENANCE MANAGERS)

This three-day session will address the expectations of a 5310 agency Maintenance Manager relative to providing oversight to the entire maintenance process. Topics include the PM process, effective pre and post inspections, data management and providing oversight to an outsourced vendor. Fogmaker annual inspection certification and Braun wheelchair lift training will be included.

Braun Wheelchair Lift

This half day session addresses the Braun lift safety inspection and lift maintenance. This training is Braun supported and a certificate of completion is issued upon completion.

Digital Volt OHM Meter

The DVOM class is a half-day session designed to demonstrate how to perform safe and accurate voltage, resistance and amperage measurements. DVOM training assists the technician in developing a better understanding of the vehicle electrical system. Certification is available through an online test at the completion of this session.

Fogmaker

This half-day session allows for the technician to receive the Fogmaker three-year Annual Inspection Certification. The class will share how the fire suppression system operates and how to properly inspect. A certificate indicating the course completion will be issued by Fogmaker at the completion of the session.

Universal EPA 608 Training

This one-day session will provide technicians the content required to maintain, service, repair or dispose of equipment that could release refrigerants into the atmosphere. Participants will take the EPA Universal 608 Exam at the conclusion of the class. The participant is not responsible for testing fees.

ASE Prep

This half-day session is designed to assist the technician with the test taking skills necessary to pass the ASE certification exams. The class is not designed to address the technical aspects of the exam but focuses on how the questions are written and how to determine what the question is attempting to derive. The LPIP program will pay for ASE testing.
